NILES, Ohio (WKBN) -- The 18th Annual Buddy Walk took place at Eastwood Field in Niles on Sunday, celebrating individuals with Down Syndrome in the community.

Around 2,500 gathered at the walk, put on by the Down Syndrome Association of the Valley, which kicked off the day with a dance party tailgate before the 1-mile walk around the field.

"Every year, new families come into our organization. New babies are born, new families move into the region, and they just become a part of our family. And with this, this is the largest celebration that we have every year," said Michele Jones, Down Syndrome Association of the Valley president.

Organizers said they will begin planning for next year's Buddy Walk "as soon as next week."
