AIKEN — A half-century of sisterhood, philanthropy and service was in the spotlight at a Houndslake Country Club gathering Sept. 18, with dozens of past and present members of Aiken Woman's Club together to celebrate the club's 50th anniversary.

The assembly included a visit from Chapin resident Suzanne Carswell, president of South Carolina's chapter of General Federated Women's Clubs ; and also from Mayor Pro Tempore Ed Girardeau, who presented an Aiken City Council proclamation saluting the club and naming Sept. 18 as "Aiken Woman's Club Day" in the community.

At least one of the club's charter members was on hand for the gathering: Sue Hayes. Her fellow charter members, according to the municipal proclamation, were Jane Vaughters, Mary Bess Epps, Olivia Lawhon, Silvia Johnson,
