(FOX40.COM) — Crews with the Sacramento Fire Department battled a train fire on Monday morning in the area of North Highlands at the railroad tracks near Roseville Road.
SFD said the fire was reported just after 2 a.m. and began in a train car, which spread to two other train cars, one carrying ethanol and the other carrying diesel.
The fire then spread into a tow yard, destroying six cars and a trailer that contained car batteries.
Powerlines were also damaged during the fire, which impacted SMUD customers in the area. Power has since been restored.
According to officials, the fire was knocked down, but Roseville Road from Marconi Avenue to Longview Drive remains closed.
Crews will be monitoring the area for hotspots as investigators attempt to determine the cause of the fire.
