Search teams have been working tirelessly to locate a missing five-year-old boy in Crowsnest Pass. Darius Macdougall was last seen walking with his family approximately four kilometers south of Crowsnest Pass, near Island Lake Campground. He was reported missing around 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Darius has a medical condition that may hinder his ability to respond to others. This has raised concerns among searchers.
"RCMP and conservation officers are on scene, joined by searchers from multiple agencies including Search and Rescue teams in Alberta and British Columbia," the RCMP stated. The search efforts are being bolstered by the use of drones, dogs, and helicopters.
The search continued overnight, with crews equipped to operate in darkness. RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff noted the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the boy's medical condition and potential communication difficulties. "The boy’s medical condition and his possible inability to communicate were causes for concern," Savinkoff said.
The search operation has involved numerous personnel, although the exact number of searchers has not been disclosed. Darius is described as being four feet tall with short brown hair. At the time he went missing, he was wearing a blue and grey hoodie along with sweatpants.
Authorities are urging anyone who may have seen Darius or has any information regarding his whereabouts to contact the Crowsnest Pass RCMP at 403-562-2866. Anonymous tips can also be submitted through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or via the P3 Tips mobile app.
