FORSYTH, Ga. — A Forsyth 3-year-old was taken to the hospital on Sunday after the parents said the child accidentally shot themself, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

They said that the Monroe County child was taken to the hospital at around 1 p.m. for a gunshot wound.

The child was then taken by helicopter to a hospital in Atlanta for surgery, according to the press release.

The Forsyth Police Department asked the GBI to help out in the investigation. The GBI said that both agencies are investigating the case together.

The GBI said that the investigation is "active and ongoing."
