A political showdown in Tarrant County ended Monday after county commissioners approved a new, lower tax rate.

On Monday, with four commissioners present, the tax rate passed 3-1. The now-approved tax rate of $0.1862 per $100 of valuation is slightly lower than a year ago, .69%, when it was $0.1875. The tax cut on a $300,000 home will save a homeowner about $4 on their annual property tax bill.

Precinct 2 Commissioner Alisa Simmons, a Democrat, was again a no-show on Monday. Last week, she did not attend Tuesday's meeting in protest over the tax proposal, claiming it would hurt some county services. Simmons had been advocating for a slightly higher tax rate that would improve county services.
