B.C.'s public service strike is escalating once again, with liquor and cannabis distribution workers walking off the job on Monday, Sept. 22.
This brings the total number of B.C. government workers engaged in some job action to 10,000.
The B.C. General Employees' Union (BCGEU) and the Professional Employees' Association (PEA) represent almost 36,000 B.C. government workers. The unions' last collective bargaining agreement expired on March 31, and the government offered an overall 3.5 per cent raise over two years. The unions want four per cent in year one, followed by 4.25 per cent in year two.
