GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WCTV) - The city of Cairo is buying its very own voting machines for the first time - a decision those at the county level say was unwarranted.
City manager Booker Gainor said in an email to WCTV that the city purchased voting machines from Dominion Voting Systems because their agreement to use the county equipment was coming to an end.

According to the Grady County elections board, that agreement cost the city nothing to use and was extendable.
The city says they are buying the machines to be fully prepared for future elections. Meanwhile, county leaders like Sam Carnline, vice chair of the Grady County election board, said the purchase is a waste of $30,000.
