MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (KMOT) - Caring for airmen is more than a duty; it’s a calling.

Master Sergeant Sarah Bordges with Minot Air Force Base has earned one of the Air Force’s prestigious honors: First Sergeant of the Year.

First Sergeants serve as the senior enlisted advisers and act as the commander’s key link to fellow airmen.

It’s a volunteer role, and they make themselves available to airmen 24/7 to respond to any issues that members and their families may be facing.

They provide support for health, morale, training and welfare.

Bordges has been stationed in Minot for the last two years.

The Air Force awards this recognition to only one individual each year.
