LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - Multiple Kentucky lawmakers are now calling for the resignation of Fayette County Superintendent Dr. Demetrus Liggins and Board Chair Tyler Murphy.

Representative Matt Locket

Rep. Matt Lockett, a Republican from Nicholasville who represents parts of Fayette and Jessamine County, said that after months of budget questions, concerns, a projected shortfall and unaccounted-for dollars in a contingency fund, he believes the public has lost faith.

He tells WKYT he doesn’t see any other path forward.

Lockett believes the two stepping down is in the best interest of the district.

“We’ve got to be able to put this behind us,” he said. “As the old saying goes, everything rises and falls on leadership.”
