For Christina Kwon Loose, teaching isn’t just about a grade or a text book.

It goes way beyond, to a place where students feel empowered and free to find out where and how they can excel.

“Teaching is about so much more than academics,” said Loose, who teaches seventh-grade English Language Arts and Social Studies at Martha Baldwin School. “It’s about creating a safe space where students know they are valued, where their voices matter, and where they can discover their own strengths.”

Loose has just joined 15 other teachers across L.A. County to become Teachers of the Year in the region for 2025, an honor bestowed each year by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

Along with Loose, honorees include:

-Seth Johnson, Lancaster High School, Antelope Valley Union High School District
