COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - The South Carolina Department of Public Safety has released its final numbers following the completion of the five-day ‘Operation Keep Us Safe’.

The program lasted five days, and during that time, South Carolina Highway Patrol and State Transport officers issued 2,383 citations, which is approximately 475 citations per day.

The new program was introduced at a press conference last week following three incidents involving state troopers within the past two months.

Officers were encouraged to crack down on those who violated the state’s “Move Over” law and the newly passed hands-free driving law.

Citations were issued for vehicles that failed to stop for emergency vehicles with flashing lights and sirens. Warnings were also given to drivers who had cellphones in
