SCALES MOUND, Ill. — A northern Illinois high school sports team was given surprise funding from a local politician.

State Senator Andrew Chesney (R-Freeport) gifted $500 to the Scales Mound Trap Team on Monday. The scholarship was made possible by the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen's Caucus, one of the oldest and largest caucuses in the General Assembly.

“The Illinois Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus plays an important role in advancing policies that protect and promote hunting, fishing, trapping, and wildlife management in Illinois,” said Chesney. “As a member, I was proud to once again support these efforts by awarding a $500 scholarship to a local school.
