Arizona State University is starting a new school focused on conservation at its Tempe campus with potential global implications thanks to a $115 million gift from one member of the Walton family.
Rob Walton, eldest son of Walmart founder Sam Walton, made the donation that will lead to the creation of the Rob Walton School of Conservation at the Tempe campus with locations in Hawaii and plans to move abroad.
The university also announced the College of Global Futures will be renamed after Walton, recognizing his dedication to global conservation efforts through Walmart stores in America and around the world.
“Conservation is important for our whole world,” Walton said in a statement to ASU. “We need nature to survive. Ultimately, I’ve made this a priority.”
