On Sept. 9, the Glendale City Council voted unanimously to repeal three ordinances (022-66, 022-67, and 023-04) that criminalized panhandling throughout the city, citing a lawsuit filed by three Glendale residents a factor in their decision.
Glendale Michael Bailey requested the council to entertain a motion to repeal the ordinances at that night’s meeting.
“The identified ordinances contain language that is being challenged in court. After reviewing the lawsuit that has been filed against the city and the salient law, we believe we can remove the alleged offending language set forth in the ordinance as we continue to address pedestrian and vehicle safety pursuant to other city ordinances and state statutes,” Bailey said.
This means Glendale police will no longer be able to fine or arre
