CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Parents and coaches say they were blindsided after learning a baseball field in Cranston is being torn up and converted into a new city parking lot.
Crews began paving over Ricci Field this week, just days after Cranston League for Cranston’s Future (CLCF) used it for youth games.
Parents of children who have played on the field said they were not informed of the change until construction was already underway.
"We're in fall ball season right now and they're trying to take it in the middle of our season which is not fair to the kids, especially since it's Cranston League for Cranston's Future," assistant coach Matt Rosenblatt told 12 News. "This is a Cranston future and they're messing up their future in baseball."
