HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - The YMCA of Honolulu is getting a major boost to help reimagine its Nuʻuanu facility.
The nonprofit welcomed a $300,000 gift from Hawaiʻi State Federal Credit Union with matching funds from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Monday.
The funding will go toward a new “intergenerational room” at the Nuʻuanu YMCA, designed to bring together keiki, teens, kūpuna, and families in one shared space.
Officials say the facility will remain in its design phase through 2026, with groundbreaking set for 2027. Construction is expected to last two years.
Phase one of the project focuses on renovations, which includes creating the intergenerational room, while phase two adds an affordable housing component.
