Kauai police say two people are in critical condition after a solo vehicle crash Sunday night.

Police said at about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, a 2015 white Nissan multi-purpose vehicle with four occupants crashed into a large tree after the driver failed to negotiate a left-hand curve on Hulemalu Road, just east of the Haiku Road intersection.

“Two passengers sustained critical injuries and were transported to Wilcox Medical Center, where they remain in critical condition,” said Kauai police in a news release. “The driver, a minor, and another passenger were treated for injuries and later released from Wilcox Medical Center.”

Hulemalu Road was closed in both directions for approximately two and a half hours as Kauai police conducted an on-scene investigation.
