Amid Durga Puja celebrations, Kolkata witnessed a disruption on Tuesday as unprecedented overnight rains inundated several parts of the city.

At least seven people were electrocuted in the city, officials said. The deaths were reported from five areas in the city — Netaji Nagar, Kalikapur, Mominpur and Ballygunge Place in south Kolkata and Beniapukur in north Kolkata.

The downpour, which started on Monday night and continued for around seven hours, led to waterlogging in several areas, resulting in suspension of metro services and crippling traffic movement across the city. Over 300 mm of rainfall was recorded across the city.
