NEW DELHI: The Commissionerate of Customs (Preventive), Kochi, launched a series of raids across Kerala targeting affluent individuals, including prominent actors and industrialists, as part of a crackdown on the alleged illegal import of premium vehicles from Bhutan. According to official sources, the crackdown, christened “Operation Numkhor,” which in Bhutanese means ‘vehicle’, is based on information about nearly 100 such vehicles being illegally imported. The raids follow surveillance on the alleged illegal import of second-hand vehicles from Bhutan. The raids are ongoing in at least 30 locations, including Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Kuttippuram, and Thrissur.
