Two men, Francisco Frank (28) and Wonderful Tembenuka (24), tragically drowned in Lake Malawi at Sengabay, Salima District.

According to Salima Police Spokesperson Rebecca Ndiwate, the incident occurred during a boat trip involving the two men and 14 friends from Lumbadzi, Dowa District.

While swimming, Tembenuka reportedly went too far into the lake and was overwhelmed by the waves. In an attempt to rescue him, Frank jumped in, but he too was swept away by the strong currents.

Frank’s body was recovered the same day by well-wishers, who rushed him to Sengabay Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Tembenuka’s body was found floating in the lake on Tuesday morning.

Medical reports confirmed that both men died from suffocation due to drowning.
