In celebration of National Hunting and Fishing Day, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is hosting its 26th annual Salmon River Fish Hatchery Open House on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Admission to the rain-or-shine event is free. The Salmon River Fish Hatchery is located at 2133 County Route 22 in Altmar.

Hatchery staff will take guests on a rare behind-the-scenes tour of the facility, which each year stocks more than 100 public waters, including Lake Ontario, with 3.5 million trout and salmon.
