HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Hartford police are investigating a reported carjacking Monday evening, during which the alleged victim said someone fired a gunshot next to their ear before stealing their car.

The incident happened in the area of 264 South Whitney St. just before 8 p.m., according to police.

On scene, the alleged victim told officers he was walking out of the South Whitney Plaza when approached by a man with a mask and dark clothing.

During a subsequent struggle, the suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and fired a single round next to the other man's ear. The suspect then stole the man's car and a chain from his neck, according to police.

No injuries were reported.
