Officially there are two parties fielding candidates in next month’s municipal election — Tim Cartmell’s Better Edmonton and PACE (the Principled Accountable Coalition for Edmonton).

In effect, though, there are three. Working Families Edmonton is officially registered as a third-party advertiser but in reality it resembles a party as much as the others.

Working Families has better organization and what appears to be a better get-out-the-vote mechanism and the most complete platform of the three. (Free transit, less jailtime for criminals, more money for public services.)

Working Families is seeking the re-election of eight of the current 12 members of council. Not by chance, those eight (including Andrew Knack for mayor) make up the lefty majority that has ruled council for the past
