LEWISTON, Maine — Central Maine Healthcare and the American Red Cross are once again holding a commemorative blood drive to honor the victims of the Lewiston mass shooting.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 4 in conference rooms A, B, and C on the lower level of Central Maine Medical Center at 12 High Street, according to the hospital.

This year's goal is to collect 35 units of blood.

The blood drive was first held last year to mark one year since the tragedy on Oct. 25, 2023, where a gunman killed 18 people and injured 13 others. Fourteen patients were brought to Central Maine Medical Center that night, and 11 of those treated survived.

Hospital officials said blood donations were critical to treating victims. CMMC used 39 units from its supply, while another 83 units
