DARLINGTON COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) -- The secretary of a Darlington County church destroyed by fire in July has been accused of misusing more than $10,000 of the church's money.
Jennifer Dixon-Hooks was arrested on Tuesday and charged with breach of trust greater than $10,000. She is in the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Sheriff Michael August's office said the alleged crime took place between January 2022 and July 19, the day the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, home to one of the county's oldest Black congregations, caught fire.
Dixon-Hooks was in charge of the church's finances, according to an arrest warrant, and allegedly used the church's money to pay for personal expenses without the church's authorization or consent.
