LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Board of Education has until January to receive a 2026-27 budget that addresses the district’s $188 million deficit. The board then has until September to approve it.
The working deficit right now is $188,462,757, and more budget reductions will be needed for the 2026-27 school year.
The district needs to cut an additional $80 million from the upcoming school budget, for a total of $188 million.
JCPS Chief Financial Officer Eddie Muns warned that the district's cash flow will dry up by October 2026 if the current level of spending continues.
