STOKES COUNTY, N.C. —
An elementary school employee in North Carolina has been arrested after authorities say she wrote "Sandy Hook Elementary" and "Shooter’s Accomplice Block" on a wooden block used to wedge open an exterior door.
On Monday, the King Police Department School Resource Officer was alerted to the wooden block on campus and out of an abundance of caution, the school activated a shelter-in-place protocol to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The investigation determined that the block was used to wedge open an exterior door, which was found and labeled by a King Elementary employee.
The employee, Susan Heflin Carter, 64, of Tobaccoville, has been charged with disorderly conduct – by disruption of the teaching of students of a public educational institution.
