Hurricane Gabrielle is now a major Category 4 storm after strengthening overnight, forecasters with the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Tuesday morning.

Gabrielle is expected to continue moving northeast over the open Central Tropical Atlantic Ocean and will gradually weaken.

As Gabrielle churns, two other tropical waves have developed in the Atlantic and both of them are expected to strengthen into named storms over the next week.

Gabrielle was 305 miles east northeast of the Bahamas as of 7 a.m. Monday, with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph and moving northeast at 13 mph.
