When boaters are out enjoying our coastal scenery, the last thing they expect is to be involved in an overboard response, but that is exactly what happened after a BC Ferries passenger fell from the boat.

On Sept. 4, for the second day in a row, a BC Ferries passenger went overboard, prompting a response.

Michael Bentley and his wife were boating in the area when they noticed the ferry doing something strange.

“What we had noticed is the ferry was starting to alter course,” Bentley recalled.

“And it was like, ‘Are they turning towards Departure Bay? Shouldn’t that ferry be going to Tsawwassen? So we turned up the VHS radio, heard the mayday call. It wasn’t totally clear to our ears, so we looked at the screen on the radio and it said, person overboard near the entrance to Active Pass.
