Toronto drivers may see the Gardiner Expressway's construction come to a close later this year, or early 2026, city manager Paul Johnson says.
Speaking to CBC Radio's Tuesday, Johnson said the elevated portion of the highway will be completed ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026, when Toronto is set to host six games.
"At one point it was going to be reopened during FIFA and then closed down again to continue after FIFA next year. All indications are no, we could be completed this project," he said.
But Johnson said an exact date is harder to say and the construction's completion will depend greatly on the weather this winter.
