LUFKIN, Texas — Lufkin ISD says an unloaded firearm was brought onto the Lufkin Middle School campus on Friday, Sept. 12.
According to a statement from the district, school officials were made aware of the incident on Sept. 22 and immediately began an investigation with the help of local law enforcement.
District leaders stressed that bringing any firearm onto campus—loaded or unloaded—is a felony offense. Lufkin ISD says it will pursue all legal measures to address the situation and keep students safe.
“Student safety is our top priority,” the district said in its statement. “We urge parents and guardians to talk with their children about the importance of immediately reporting any safety concerns.”
