GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Tarl Knight, the owner of The Tarlton Theatre in downtown Green Bay, announced Monday that a “pop-up” event celebrating LGBT pride will take place next month.
The announcement comes in response to the recent postponement of NEW Pride. Last week, the LGBTQ+ support organization said it was postponing its annual festival in De Pere.
Organizers said it was a difficult decision that was made “in light of the increasingly charged political climate.” While not explicitly stated, NEW Pride’s announcement came a few days after conservative activist Charlie Kirk was assassinated.
On Monday, Tarl Knight said an event titled “We Will Still Be Seen: A Pop-Up Pride” will be held October 4 in downtown Green Bay.
Described as a “grassroots, family-friendly Pride celebration,”
