CONNECTICUT (WTNH) — New numbers show that the homeless population is growing in Connecticut.

The issue of homelessness could stem anywhere from poverty to the lack of affordable housing, making it difficult to get by, according to local homeless prevention leaders.

"What we are seeing is families who are unable to make it, elderly falling into homelessness at a rate that we never seen before and becoming homeless because they can't afford rent on social security, and people who are working full time jobs who are homeless in our communities tonight," Sarah Fox, the CEO for the Connecticut Coalition to End Homelessness, said.

The state’s annual Point-in-Time Count report showed that 3,735 people are experiencing homelessness across the state, for those sheltered and unsheltered.
