A Springfield schools official said a hoax call led to a lockdown at an elementary school Tuesday afternoon.

Parents of students received notice that Holloway Elementary School went into lockdown at 12:15 p.m.

Springfield Superintendent Matt Geha said in a statement that the school had been placed on lockdown following a 911 call from an anonymous cell phone reporting that a gun was in the building.

Tayler Redinger, community relations director, said the call was a hoax.

“It was called in by a student while he was in school,” Ms. Redinger said. “The child is currently being detained.”

Ms. Redinger did not have an age or grade for the male student.

The district safety team, local law enforcement, senior administration, and the fire department responded immediately, Mr. Geha said.
