GREENSBORO, N.C. — For more than 30 years, members of Hinshaw United Methodist Church have volunteered with Appalachia Service Project (ASP) . This summer, their mission trip took them to Avery and Mitchell counties in western North Carolina. Over two dozen people helped rebuild homes and restore hope.
“Volunteering through service is a form of ministry,” said Jim Waynick, program director at Hinshaw United Methodist Church. “Every summer on Appalachia Service Project, you meet the family, spend time with them, share meals, and begin to understand their situation. You start to love them as friends.”
Waynick said it brings a sense of community to neighbors who are still recovering from the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Helene.
