The Liberal government’s gun “buyback” program is shot full of holes. Starting with a six-week pilot program in Cape Breton before expanding to the rest of the country, the program relies on a lot of “ifs” and the goodwill of Canadians.

The government doesn’t have buy-in from police forces across the country and they don’t even know how many guns there are to collect or who has them.

“Eligible firearm owners across Canada will be contacted by mail or email to provide them with the information needed to take part in the program and declare their prohibited firearms,” the government’s news release states.

To translate that into plain English, the government is going to contact every licenced firearm owner and ask if they have any banned guns. If they have guns that were once legal and are
