DUBLIN — Growing up in West Newton, Denise Vidas had three choices on Sundays during football season. She could play in the yard, help in the kitchen or watch the Steelers on the one TV in the house.

You know which option she chose.

The same one so prevalent in and around Pittsburgh, the greatest sports city on the planet, where the love of black and gold routinely borders on obsessiveness, our moods and way of life unquestionably affected by the success of our sports teams.

I was reminded of that for the umpteenth time Tuesday, this time came halfway across the world, in a Steelers bar in Dublin, as I sat down next to Denise and her husband, Nevin.

Though she moved away from West Newton around age 13, the passion for Pittsburgh sports has never left Vidas.
