The Clinton County Commissioners are calling for the immediate resignation of Sheriff Richard Kelly following a court order requiring him to repay nearly $330,000 to the state.
State investigators said Sheriff Kelly and his wife, Ashley Kelley, hired themselves to manage the jail's commissary fund. They allegedly collected about $200,000 in profits through a company they created.
The court has ordered the Kellys to return that money and pay over $100,000 in audit costs.
This ruling marks the latest development in a years-long legal battle between the Kellys and the state of Indiana.
County commissioners said they will collaborate with county legal counsel and state officials to ensure proper oversight is restored to the sheriff's office.
