MONTROSE, Colo. (KREX) — Small schools have a big impact on the western slope, and nothing says that better than Olathe Middle and High School in Montrose County. The next Golden Apple Award winner exemplifies the spirit of making a big impact in a small school.

Amy Johnson is the math teacher in Olathe, but she also serves as the health teacher and weight instructor for the school. Olathe students and faculty can depend on her. She always fills the gaps that the school has, whether it is coaching volleyball or track, or even running with the cross country team. “I love the Western Slope of Colorado, especially because I'm from here,” recounts Johnson. “I feel like there's just a lot of really good people here.
