A 12-year-old girl died Monday following an early Friday house fire in North Mankato, according to authorities.

The North Mankato Fire Department said the fire happened at 524 Lyndale Ave., where firefighters arrived just before 5:30 a.m. Friday to find heavy smoke and flames coming from the second story.

Firefighters entered the burning home and rescued Autumn R. Paulson and her 41-year-old mother, who's name was not released. The department said both Paulson and her mother were rushed to a local hospital "with severe burns" and then flown to Hennepin County Medical Center in downtown Minneapolis.

Paulson died Monday, while her mother has been treated for smoke inhalation and released from the hospital.
