BEAUFORT COUNTY, S.C. (WCSC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office said reports circulating on a social media platform about the shooting of a police officer are false.

Deputies said they were made aware on Tuesday of a post circulated through the “Safety Alerts” feature of the social media platform Nextdoor claiming that a police officer was shot near Beach City Road. The report also stated the shooter ran into a wooded area.

“These claims are completely false,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “There have been no reports of a shooting in the area today, and no law enforcement officers have been injured.”
