EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — The suspect accused of seriously injuring an Evansville Police Department officer in a shootout had his initial hearing on Tuesday.
Jailani Chew was arrested and charged with several serious crimes, including two counts of attempted murder, after a confrontation with police that began over a stolen vehicle, EPD said.
According to EPD Chief Philip Smith, Chew had just turned 18 last month.

On Tuesday, Chew had his initial court hearing.
During court on Tuesday, the judge set Chew's bond at $1 million cash. A preliminary plea of Not Guilty was also entered by the court on Chew's behalf.
