AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is teaming up with Dell Children's Medical Center to educate parents on how to correctly install car seats for its "Save Me with a Seat" campaign. The campaign will coincide with National Child Passenger Safety Week until Sept. 27.
With car crashes one of the leading causes of death among children, having car seats correctly installed is one of the ways to keep children safe.
TxDOT aims to make sure all parents know how to install car seats with free car seat safety checks across the state and remind them to buckle their children up every time.
Officials say in 2024, Texas saw an increase in children younger than 8 years old killed in car crashes that were not in a car seat.
