SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) - Leaders from across the Ozarks met on Tuesday to discuss one of our most valuable natural resources: water.

They came together for the Southwest Missouri Regional Water Conference. Speakers focused on how communities can ensure they have enough water to meet their future needs.

One topic included a recently completed Army Corps of Engineers study on the effects of pulling more water from Stockton Lake. The study began in 2015 at the request of Southwest Missouri Water. The organization works to find ways to maintain a steady flow of water in the area as demand increases.

After years of research, it was determined that retaining more water in the lake may be beneficial. The study suggests that it won’t increase flooding or cost more than building a new reservoir,
