SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- In order to support conservation efforts for black rhinos at Kenya's Loisaba Conservancy, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's expert wildlife care and Conservation Technology Lab teams are using artificial intelligence (AI).
According to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park's Instagram post, the teams are training an AI model to identify individual rhinos using camera footage of southern white rhinos at the Safari Park. The teams then review the footage, teaching AI how to tell rhinos apart.
The Safari Park went on to say in the post that this technology will help them better monitor and protect rhino populations in their native habitats.
