MADISON, Wis. -- A man faces criminal charges after Madison police said he sexually assaulted a woman in 2013.

According to police, the assault occurred in the 200 block of South Hancock Street just after 2 a.m. on Nov. 3, 2013. A woman told officers she was out at a concert when she became separated from her friends and was approached by an unknown man who offered to help.

Police said the man proceeded to attack and sexually assault the woman in a parking lot. The woman was taken to a hospital.

DNA evidence from the attacker was collected and put into the Combined DNA Index System in December 2013. Police said the attacker's DNA had been circulating without any hits until recently.
