A former Eagles star and Super Bowl champion has been released from his new team.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson, a key member of the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX, has been released by the Houston Texans, according to a Tuesday report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter .

The news comes one day after Texans safety Jimmie Ward was reinstated from the commissioner’s exempt list.

The Eagles traded Gardner-Johnson to the Texans in March. Philadelphia dealt the playmaking safety and a sixth-round pick in exchange for offensive lineman Kenyon Green and a fifth-round pick. Green has since been waived by the Eagles.

Gardner-Johnson was released by Houston after there was “friction behind the scenes with him complaining about his role” and “even communicating that he wanted to be traded,” according to Aaron Wilson
