BRAINERD — “The Ex Hex” has been on my fall reading list for a while, and this is the year I finally got to it.
Written by Rachel Hawkins under the pen name Erin Sterling, “The Ex Hex” is the first in a series of seasonal rom-coms, followed up by “The Kiss Curse” and “The Wedding Witch.” Each story follows one of the Welsh Penhallow brothers and their dealings with the witchy inhabitants of Graves Glen, Georgia.
There’s magic and both spooky and cozy autumn vibes in a town that was practically built to celebrate Halloween. “The Ex Hex” puts the “spice” in pumpkin spice, with plenty of steamy romance that could be a little off-putting for those who want more of a wholesome story, yet appealing for those who need a little drama in their fall reading.
