PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) -- The next time you see tracks, think train.
That's the message TriMet wants everyone to understand as they released video footage of extremely close calls between MAX trains and people.
TriMet's Tyler Graf hopes this video will serve as a reminder that their trains can't slam on the brakes like cars can.
"It can take about 1000 feet in an emergency for a MAX train to stop," Graf said. "We want people to ditch the distractions."
Headphones are common distraction.
"People think that because they're listening to earbuds that they can still see their surroundings," he told KOIN 6 News. "But hearing a train, listening for the trains themselves, that's really important." • A screen grab from a 'close calls' video released by TriMet, September 23, 2025 (TriMet) •
